SONY MOVIE CHANNEL BLAZES INTO THE NEW YEAR WITH AN ACTION-PACKED LINEUP FEATURING ANTONIO BANDERAS IN DESPERADO, A STEVEN SEAGAL 2-PACK, AND MORE, AIRING IN PRIMETIME ALL MONTH LONG

CULVER CITY, CA – Monday, December 19, 2016 – Sony Movie Channel kicks off 2017 with an explosive January lineup full of action epics, creature features, classic comedies, award-winning dramas, and much more. This month’s roster includes Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek in an EL MARIACHI three-pack; a monstrous Godzilla block; back-to-back Samuel L. Jackson thrillers; a night of laughs starring Cheech & Chong and Gene Wilder & Richard Pryor; and Johnny Depp and Al Pacino in DONNIE BRASCO, among others.

THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY (1978)—Sun., January 1 at 7 p.m. ET

Gary Busey delivers one of his finest performances, starring as rock n’ roll pioneer Buddy Holly in this Oscar®-winning biopic that explores the performer’s unparalleled rise and tragic death.

 

SILVERADO (1985)—Tues., January 3 at 10 p.m. ET

Friends Kevin CostnerKevin KlineDanny Glover, and Scott Glenn team up to bring justice to a small desert town, in Lawrence Kasdan’s modern Western masterpiece.

 

EL MARIACHI Block—Fri., January 6 at 8:35 p.m. ET

SMC puts the spotlight on Robert Rodriguez’s “Mexico Trilogy,” with a night of action opening with his 1993 debut EL MARIACHI. Then, at 10 p.m. ET, Antonio Banderas stars as a gunslinger out to avenge his lover’s death in DESPERADO, with Salma Hayek. And Banderas helps CIA agent Johnny Depp stop Willem Dafoe from overthrowing Mexico’s president in ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO, at 11:50 p.m. ET.

 

CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON (2000)—Sun., January 8 at 7 p.m. ET

A warrior (Chow Yun Fat) embarks on a quest to reclaim his stolen sword in this Oscar®-winning opus directed by Ang LeeMichelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi also star.

 

Godzilla Double Feature—Mon., January 9 at 10 p.m. ET

The King Of All Monsters returns in this creature feature celebrating two of Godzilla’s most classic adventures. The night begins with a showdown for the ages, as aliens take control of Godzilla, RodanMothra, and more, using the beasts to decimate the world’s major cities in DESTROY ALL MONSTERS. And Godzilla joins forces with Jet Jaguar to take down Megalon and Gigan in GODZILLA VS. MEGALON, at 11:35 p.m. ET.

 

Samuel L. Jackson—Thurs., January 12 at 8:25 p.m. ET

Samuel L. Jackson stars in this thrilling two-pack, as a crime scene cleaner caught in a twisted cover-up scheme in CLEANER, with Ed Harris and Eva Mendes. And Jackson encounters a gang of bizarre bank robbers while searching for a missing teen in NO GOOD DEED, with Milla Jovovich and Stellan Skarsgård, at 10 p.m. ET.

 

Seagal x2—Mon., January 16 at 10 p.m. ET

SMC salutes action icon Steven Seagal with a pair of hard-hitting favorites, kicking off with Seagal as a man searching for his son’s killer in URBAN JUSTICE, with Eddie Griffin and Danny Trejo. Then, Seagal goes undercover to disarm a terrorist plot to bomb Los Angeles in BLACK DAWN, at 11:40 p.m. ET.

 

Nice ‘N’ Crazy Comedy Block—Tues., January 24 at 8 p.m. ET

Spend an evening with two of comedy’s most dynamic duos, in this night of laughs starring Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor as best friends falsely imprisoned for robbery in STIR CRAZY. And blazing buddies Cheech & Chong evade the police on a long, strange trip through L.A. in CHEECH & CHONG’S NICE DREAMS, at 10 p.m. ET.
