CULVER CITY, CA – Thursday, August 25, 2016 – Sony Movie Channel unleashes a month of marathons this September, with a fully loaded lineup featuring musical masterpieces, iconic comedies, and a day of epics starring some of action’s biggest names. This month’s roster includes a weekly Music Movie Month block, highlighting music-themed films starring summer festival performers Bob DylanThe Rolling StonesNeil YoungPaul McCartney, and more, airing every Thursday; as well as a special Bill Murray 66 x6 birthday block; and a Labor Day Action Movie Marathon starring Arnold SchwarzeneggerSteven SeagalJean-Claude Van Damme, and Dolph Lundgren, among others.

Music Movie Month—Every Thursday at 10 p.m. ET

Rock out with SMC, as the network presents a month of music-themed movies, documentaries, and concert films, airing every Thursday in September at 10 p.m. ET. The marathon is headlined by a salute to the 2016 Desert Trip music festival, featuring three weeks of themed blocks starring the festival’s iconic performers, starting on September 15 and culminating in a nine-film marathon on Friday, September 30 at 8:30 a.m. ET. Tune in for a night of Funk starring Harvey Keitel as a record producer fighting to keep his creative integrity in the rare 1975 drama THAT’S THE WAY OF THE WORLD, with Earth Wind & Fire. And meet the musicians who backed up some of music’s most biggest acts in STANDING IN THE SHADOWS OF MOTOWN, featuring interviews with Chaka KhanBootsy CollinsJames Jamerson, and Joe Hunter, among others.

 

Stones / Who / Floyd—September 15

Hit the road with The Rolling Stones, as the raucous superstars rock the U.S. with their trademark sound in LET’S SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER. Then, explore Britain’s vibrant ‘60s and early ‘70s rock scene in ROCK CITY, boasting performances by The Rolling Stones, Pink FloydJimi HendrixThe Who, and Tina Turner, among others.

 

Neil / Dylan—September 22

Spend an evening with two of rock’s most influential artists, as Neil Young heads back to his hometown to get in touch with his roots in NEIL YOUNG JOURNEYS, directed by Jonathan Demme. And Bob Dylan stars as a down-and-out singer forced to make a comeback as revolution rages in the background in the layered drama MASKED AND ANONYMOUS, with John GoodmanJeff BridgesJessica Lange, and Luke Wilson.

 

McCartney / Valens—September 29

SMC puts the spotlight on two musical heroes taken far too soon, in this biopic block starring Elizabeth Mitchell and Gary Bakewell as rock n’ roll power couple Linda and Paul McCartney in the touching 2000 drama THE LINDA MCCARTNEY STORY. And Lou Diamond Phillips brings the incredible story of Ritchie Valens to life in LA BAMBA, with Esai Morales.

 

Bill Murray 66 x6—Every Sunday in September at 7 p.m. ET

SMC salutes beloved funnyman Bill Murray with this month long event, airing every Sunday at 7 p.m. ET in honor of Murray’s 66TH birthday on September 21. The celebration begins on September 4, with Murray as a sergeant on a mission to recover priceless art from the Nazis in THE MONUMENTS MEN, with George Clooney and Cate Blanchett. Murray shines in two of his most iconic roles on September 11, starring as a wisecracking slacker in STRIPES, with Harold Ramis; and a bewildered weatherman trapped in a time loop in GROUNDHOG DAY. Then, Murray steals the show in a pair of extended cameos on September 18, appearing in ZOMBIELAND, with Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone; and WILD THINGS, with Kevin Bacon. The event concludes on September 25, with an all-day marathon at 9:35 a.m. ET, headlined by Murray as a mortician who helps Robert Duvall throw his own funeral in GET LOW, with Sissy Spacek and Chandler Riggs.

 

Labor Day Action Movie Marathon—Mon., September 5 at 9:20 a.m. ET

Gear up for a day of action epics starring some of cinema’s greatest heroes, in this 11-film lineup, kicking-off at 9:35 a.m. ET with Steven Seagal in INTO THE SUN and AGAINST THE DARK. Stay tuned for a double dose of Jean-Claude Van Damme, in NOWHERE TO RUN and 6 BULLETS; followed by Dolph Lundgren as a Soviet killing machine in RED SCORPIONArnold Schwarzenegger in the 1993 genre sendup LAST ACTION HERO; and Dominic Purcell in ICE SOLDIERS. Then, Jason Statham heads out for revenge in PARKER, with Jennifer Lopez; and Cuba Gooding Jr. races to stop a serial killer in TICKING CLOCK. The night comes to a close with a pair of police thrillers starring Cuba Gooding Jr. in DIRTY, and Tom Berenger in TRUE BLUE.
