SMC Celebrates Memorial Day with Military Mysteries Featuring Kirk Douglas in THE FINAL COUNTDOWN, and Denzel Washington in A SOLDIER’S STORY

 

 

CULVER CITY, CA – Tuesday, April 25, 2017 – Sony Movie Channel presents a thrilling lineup of mysteries, mayhem, and intrigue, airing in primetime throughout the month. DirecTV and AT&T U-Verse HD subscribers will be able to enjoy a taste of the festivities with a free preview event, giving them full access to Sony Movie Channel’s extensive programming library from Monday, May 1, through Sunday, May 7. During this week, the premiere of CHARLIE’S ANGELS (May 7 at 7 p.m. ET) will be offered among other blockbuster hits.

   

Highlights of the month of mystery include themed blocks every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday night, featuring Denzel Washington in DEVIL IN A BLUE DRESS (May 3 at 12:10 a.m. ET), Kevin Bacon in WILD THINGS (May 11 at 10 p.m. ET), Sandra Bullock in THE NET (May 18 at 10 p.m. ET), Tommy Lee Jones in IN THE ELECTRIC MIST (May 21 at 7 p.m. ET), and more; as well as classic Westerns and Film Noir favorites each Wednesday starting at 8 p.m. ET, with Orson Welles in THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI (May 10), James Stewart in TWO RODE TOGETHER (May 17), Glenn Ford in EXPERIMENT IN TERROR (May 24), and Fred MacMurray in FACE OF A FUGITIVE (May 3), among others.

   

The block will also feature a slate of premieres starring some of Hollywood’s biggest names, airing throughout the month. The roster is headlined by Samuel L. Jackson as a psychotic killer who takes troubled man Luke Wilson on a ride he’ll never forget in the 2012 thriller MEETING EVIL, on May 2 at 10 p.m. ET. Other premieres include Drew Barrymore and Bill Murray in the high-octane adventure CHARLIE’S ANGELS on May 7 at 7 p.m. ET; and Michael Caine and Jude Law in Kenneth Branaugh’s twist-filled caper SLEUTH on May 12 at 10 p.m. ET.

   

On Tuesday, May 16, at 10 p.m. ET, SMC pays tribute to beloved actor Bill Paxton in one of his most celebrated roles, starring as Dale Dixon—an Arkansas sheriff caught in the middle of a big time manhunt when a gang of violent criminals rolls into his small town, in the 1992 hit ONE FALSE MOVE. The film was co-written by Billy Bob Thornton, who also stars, and was widely praised for its character portrayals and sharp suspense.

   

And SMC salutes the Armed Forces with a Memorial Day two-pack on Monday, May 29 at 10 p.m. ET, starring Kirk Douglas as a naval captain whose crew is transported back in time to the hours before the bombing of Pearl Harbor in THE FINAL COUNTDOWN, with Martin Sheen. Then, Howard E. Rollins investigates the death of an African-American sergeant on a segregated military base in the 1984 WWII caper A SOLDIER’S STORY, with Denzel Washington in one of his earliest roles, at 11:50 p.m. ET.
